An American Renaissance Carved and Burled Walnut Hallstand, late 19th c., attributed to Thomas Brooks, Brooklyn, New York, crest centered by an incised shield cartouche with pendant rings, baluster-turned supports, marble top base with drawers, drip pans, faceted disc feet, height 107 in., width 59 in., depth 17 1/4 in.
- Provenance: Provenance: A Brooklyn, New York brownstone Note: The tablet crest on this hallstand is similar to several related crests on furniture from the Brooks workshop, including that on a bed bearing Brooks stencil sold in these rooms as lot 651 February 1994, a dresser, also with the maker's stencil and sold as lot 857, August 1998 and also a walnut hallstand attributed to Brooks and removed from Manhattan's Andrew Norwood Townhouse, sold as lot 444 on September 30, 2006. The large proportions, umbrella arms and turned bar at the base of this stand are nearly identical to those on the Norwood hallstand.
