An American Renaissance Carved Rosewood, Ebonized and Inlaid Sofa, mid-19th century., attributed to Herter Bros., N.Y., the shaped tripartite back with an arched bracketed crest having a central medallion inlaid with an urn, the ebonized frame with foliate lightwood vines, the shaped arms terminating in pendant brackets, shaped seat rail with a stretcher, raised on turned legs with casters, height 42 in., width 75 in., depth 22 in. E2000-3000 Note: The vocabulary of the inlay and design elements such as the pendants and cartouches on this sofa, lot 661, all relate to furniture attributed to Herter Bros; the use of India Rubber Comb Co. casters (marked '70') on this sofa are also identical to hardware used on known Herter pieces.
