An American Renaissance Inlaid, Bronze-Mounted, Gilt-Incised and Ebonized Cherrywood Music Cabinet, c. 1865, New York, lyre-mounted arched crest, beaded frieze, the door with marquetry bucolic scene, interior shelves and compartments, incised waist molding above a drawer, bronze-mounted capitals, turned fluted legs, incurvate stretcher shelf. Note : Music cabinets such as the lot offered here were universally important in well-appointed parlors of 19th century America. The materials, proportions and distinctive supports of this cabinet relate closely to those on a New York example conserved by the Munson Williams Proctor Institute (acc. 92.40).
