An American Renaissance Walnut and Burl Walnut Bedroom Suite, late 19th Century attributed to John Jelliff, Newark, comprising a bedstead, princess dresser, washstand and bedside commode, the bed and dresser crest centered by putto atop a strapwork cartouche and with female terms; the case pieces with white marble tops and blocked stiles, burl panels, bed height 92 in., inside width 59 in., dresser height 99 in., width 58 in., depth 24 in., washstand height 45 in., width 38 in., depth 21 in., commode height 30 in., width 22 in., depth 19 in. E10000-15000 Note: The facial physiognomy and almond eyes both on the busts flanking the headboard and the fairy figure on the crest of this bed, lot 521, are nearly identical to those seen on many pieces of Jelliff seating furniture, including those on the arm supports of a sofa illustrated in Newark Museum, A Century of Revivals, 1882, p. 45.
