An American Rococo Carved Giltwood Console, mid-19th c., serpentine marble top, carved and pierced apron having leaves, shells and pendants above centered figures, on highly carved scrolled legs, and center rear supports topped by Renaissance busts, height 42 1/2 in., width 72 in., depth 18 1/2 in.
- Notes: Note: The exuberant form and gesso-modeled surface of this table are typical of a number of American mid-19th c. purveyors in New York, Philadelphia and New Orleans. Gilded furniture in American Rococo Revival interiors most often were mirrors, console tables, and occasionally parlour tables. Reference: Related American gilded furniture sold by Neal Auction Company includes a mirror sold as lot 617 on December 9, 2000 labeled by James Earle of Philadelphia, a mirror sold as lot 344 on December 7, 2002 labeled by J.D. William and Son, Philadelphia, and a mirror labeled L. Uter, New Orleans sold as lot 308a on September 30, 2006.
