An American Rococo Carved Mahogany Half-Tester Bed, mid-19th c., New Orleans, serpentine beaded tester, tapered chamfered posts, shaped crest centered by a feather carved cartouche, paneled headboard, shaped rails, conforming footboard, height 106 1/2 in., interior length 77 1/2 in., interior width 58 in.
Note: A related bed is in the collection of Stanton Hall, Natchez, MS. Another related bed with multiple "C. Lee" stamps, which descended in the family of Mississippi riverboat captain Tom Powell, was installed for many years at 2427 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans. Both feature headboards, rails and finials nearly identical to those seen here.
