An American Rococo Carved Mahogany Tester Bed, c. 1840-1850, molded tester, cluster column posts, paneled headboard with scrolled crest centered by a shell, bracketed paneled footboard, conforming rails, molded feet, height 117 1/2 in., interior length 82 1/2 in., interior width 64 1/2 in.
Provenance: Estate of noted antiquarian J. C. Chargois, Jr., Lafayette, LA; by repute belonged to Jacques Villere, 2nd Governor of Louisiana.
Note: The tester and cluster posts with Egyptian capitals and block bases on this bed are identical to those on a tester bed descended in a New Orleans family with a C. Lee pattern number stamp sold by Neal Auction Company as lot 684, July 17, 2010.
