An American Rococo Four-Light Gilt Brass Gasolier, mid-19th c., attributed to Archer, Warner and Co., successor firms, c. 1857, baluster standard with pierced foliate mounts, four acanthine scroll arms with satyr's mask terms, the body banded with icicles, fruit and a scalloped border, long spiral twist rod with conforming decor on the ceiling plate, with later etched and molded shades, height 65 in., diameter 32 in. E6000-8000 Note: The outer halves of the branches on this chandelier are identified with those of a bracket (no. 698) in an Archer, Warner, Miskey and Co. catalogue of 1857-1859, and also with those of a chandelier with branches of that same design at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the inner halves of these brackets are variants of those numbered 272/279 in the same catalogue. The pierced ornaments on the lower bell are paralleled in another, unmarked chandelier design of the 1850's. Reference: D. P.
