mid-19th c., Philadelphia, attributed to Hart, Ware & Co., elaborately decorated with polychrome flowers and delicate gilt-painted rocaille borders in very good original condition, height 35 in., width 42 in., depth 19 in. NOTE Similar painted furniture by Hart, Ware and Co., now in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is illustrated in plates 293, 294 and 295 of American Furniture of the 19th Century, by Celia Jackson Otto. Hart, Ware & Co. exhibited an enameled and richly ornamented cottage bedstead in 1853 at the New York Crystal Palace Exhibition. A closely related eight-piece bedroom suite was sold in these salesrooms on Sunday, October 2nd, 1994, lot #746.
