An American Rosewood and Marquetry "Handkerchief" Table, c. 1890, New York, attributed to Herts Bros., the segmented top inlaid with scrolling vines centered by an urn, and opening to a baize-lined playing surface constructed with oval pockets, the frieze containing a drawer, the central reeded supports cornered by the conforming colonettes, the splayed legs bordered with bellflower pendant chains, note tulip poplar secondary wood, height 28in. width 21.5in., depth 21.5in. E1500-2500 Note: An inlaid rosewood cabinet labeled by Herts Bros And thought to have been commissioned by William H. Vanderbilt can be found illustrated in Art and Enterprise, the Virginia Crawford Collection of the High Museum of Art, p. 261-263, pl. 144.
