Description:
An Antique Chinese Embroidery Panel, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), the rectangular panel with a large roundel depicting a "Royal Gathering", the roundel "framed" by dragons below and fanciful birds and Buddhist emblems above, picked out in satin stitch and couched gold and bronze threads on a gold silk ground, sight 32 in. x 19 3/4 in., framed.
- Provenance: Provenance: According to a 1962 letter attached to the back of the frame, this panel was purchased in Japan, c. 1900, by U.S. Lieutenant Samuel Reid Gleaves (1878-1926), a veteran of the Boxer Rebellion.
