An Antique Chinese Gilt Bronze or Copper Figure of the Bodhisattva Wenshu (Manjushri), cast standing square, holding a scroll in the left hand while the right is extended in vitarka mudra, with loosely draped robes exposing a bare, necklace-adorned chest, his veiled long hair dressed with a scrolling tiara, raised on a detachable base formed of a recumbent Buddhistic lion surmounted by a lotus pedestal, height 32 in., presented with a wood stand.
- Notes: Note: Manjusri is the bodhisattva of wisdom. In Chinese and Japanese art, he is commonly identified by the lion on which he sits or stands.
