Description:

An Antique Philadelphia Carved Mahogany Armchair in the Style of William Savery, the yoke shaped crestrail carved with a shell and foliate pendant, pierced vasiform splat, carved arms ending in voluted knuckles, pendant shell centered in front seat rail, on cabriole legs ending in ball and claw feet. E6000-8000 Provenance: Lot 875, pair of sidechairs, and this lot 876 the armchair were purchased by Felix Herwig Kuntz in 1948 from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. Note: The three chairs are known to have been in the board room of the Historical Society since 1884. The accompanying photograph of the Isaac L. Williams painting c. 1884 has several notations on the reverse. The Society moved to larger quarters in 1884 at 1300 Locust St.
