An Aubusson Carpet, c. 1860, the burgundy field with shaded red scattered foliate sprays around a large cartouche containing a rose bouquet in pink and green hues on an ivory ground, golden scroll work border, contained within a pale pink ground, the spandrels having polychromed floral bouquets and acanthus, in an egg-and-dart border, 18 ft. 11 in. x 15 ft. 9 in. E25000/35000 Provenance: Fairvue, Gallatin, Tennessee. Note: The Fairvue mansion was built in 1832 by Isaac Franklin on a two thousand acre plantation in the bluegrass region of Middle Tennessee. In the 1840's, Franklin bought several plantations in Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, and spent his winters in New Orleans. In 1882 the house was purchased from Franklin's widow by Charles Reed who used the land for a stock farm for race horses. In 1934, Fairvue was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. William Wennyss, who were active in many preservation projects in Tennessee.
