Description:

An Austro-Hungarian Jugenstil Mother-of-Pearl Inlaid Rosewood Cabinet, early 20th c., the geometric frieze over a pair of cabinets glazed with square-beveled panels, two rectangular cabinets flanking a bowed case with inset marble top, serving slide and two cabinet doors, conforming plinth, height 80 7/8 in., width 82 7/8 in., depth 25 7/8 in.

  • Notes: Note: Parallel with Art Nouveau, Jugendstil design was most prevalent in Munich, Vienna, and Budapest at the turn of the 20th century. Conflating "fine" and "applied" arts into a Gesamtkunstwerk, Jugendstil designers used geometricized natural forms and fine materials like those seen on the inlay of the cabinet here.
