An English Innovative Walnut Folding Chair, c. 1900, after a design attributed to James Herbert MacNair, leather sling back and padded arms, upturned scroll legs, bamboo turned stretchers, back with "Army & Navy Stores Calcutta" metal plaque.
- Notes: Note: The Army & Navy Stores, originally formed in London in 1871, opened its first Indian locations in 1891, with the Bombay store opening in 1901 According to John Richardson, son of the Stores' founder, "...the Army and Navy Store was more than a mere emporium. It was a key cog in the machinery of the Empire...functioned as travel agents, bankers, caterers, undertakers, and insurance brokers, as well as purveyors of the pith helmets, thunder-boxes, plum puddings, and all the other myriad things listed in the Army and Navy's catalogue."
