Description:

An Important American Rococo Carved and Laminated Rosewood Center Table, c. 1850, attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, the serpentine white marble top on a highly carved base, with cabriole legs joined by conforming stretcher, height 27.5in., width 39.5in., depth 30.5in. E40000-60000 Note: This table is amongst a well-known group of important Belter tables that feature a deep carved skirt in the grape and vine pattern, on distinctively carved cabriole legs. The portrait medallions centering the skirt on the lot offered here also recall the crests of poets and statesmen on certain known Belter chairs.
