Description:
An Important American Rococo Carved Rosewood Armoire, mid-19th c., New Orleans, the foliate crest centered with a flower filled urn, lobed finials, arched cornice with beading, robust ripple molding around two massive mirrored doors enclosing a fitted interior (possibly reconfigured), plinth drawer, disc feet, casters, height 121 in., width 67 in., depth 26 in. ?
- Literature: Reference: Otto. American Furniture of the Nineteenth Century, figs. 289 and 292.
- Notes: Note: A rosewood armoire with crest, case, doors and stiles very similar to this example was sold in these rooms as lot 892, October 12, 2008. Interestingly, the armoire offered here features an emphasis on ripple molding so typical of American furniture of this period.
