An Important and Rare Russian Mahogany and Burled Walnut Inlaid Bureau a Cylindre in the Neo-Classical Style, c. 1860, having spindled gallery above the cylinder top accented with inlay of olive branches, well-fitted interior with tooled leather inset writing surface, the kneehole center flanked by drawers with bronze-mounted pilaster stiles, raised on blocked base, accented by exquisite d'ore bronze mounts and drawer pulls, height 47.5in., width 54.75in., depth 28 in. E18000/25000 Note: The unique design of this desk combines a bureau ÿ cylindre and a bureau ÿ gradon. The distinctive gallery fronted by eagle head mounts, the quality and intricacy of the desk interior and the architectural scale bespeak a finely trained cabinetmaker.
