An Important English Aesthetic Walnut and Oak Sideboard, c. 1880, London, attributed to Lamb of Manchester, the lockplates stamped 'Cope and Collinson', the pediment with an armorial device flanked by balustered galleries, rectangular frieze with the motto: 'Small Cheer and Great Welcome Make a Merry Feast', the cabinet and mirror upper section with three relief carved panels of fruiting vines, the doors carved from ancient oak, one with the figure of a jester, the other a shepherdess, the lower stage with a rectangular top above three drawers retaining their original pierced brass hardware, the cupboard doors with panels of fruiting grapevines and cherries, on turned feet, original condition, height 114 in., width 83 in., depth 28 in.
