An Important Louis XV-Style Kingwood, Tulipwood and Bronze D'ore Morbier, c. 1880, after the model by Julien Le Roy (1686-1759) and Charles Cressent (1685-1768), the asymmetrical cartouche-form bonnet surmounted by a gilt bronze allegorical figure of Time holding a scythe, the enameled dial calibrated in Roman and Arabic numerals, the parquetry inlaid case displaying zephyr masks, the heart shaped pendulum reveal upon a bronze-mounted and parquetry paneled pedestal, the paw feet resting on a serpentine plinth, height 104in., width 29in., depth 11.5in. E15000-20000 Note: The original model of this clock is in the British Royal collection at Windsor Castle. Julien Le Roy is known as one of the most respected French clockmakers from the first half of the 18th century and was especially appreciated for his mechanical discoveries designed to improve the accuracy of clock and watches. His clocks were set in cases supplied by Paris's leading fondeurs and bronziers such as Charles Cressent who was known for the highly sculptural gilt bronze mounts on his furniture.
