Description:

An Important Pair of Napoleon III Ebonized and Gilt Bronze and Porcelain-Mounted Cabinets, c. 1860, with arched pediment cresting in a pair of doves, the frieze decorated with a circular plaque displaying playful cherubs and with mirror plates and supporting a shelf, the top above three drawers set with painted porcelain plaques, the open mirrored central section flanked by cabinet doors and pilaster, the plinth bordered with gilt bronze moldings, the whole profusely mounted by painted porcelain plaques and gilt bronze moldings, height 64 in., width 54 in., depth 17.75in. E18000/22000 Note: This pair of elegant cabinets is based on a combination of designs extracted from the works of famous Parisian ebenistes of the Louis XVI period. The porcelain plaques are comparable to those used by Carlin and the finely chased bronze dore ornaments are of the refinement found on examples by Riesner. Often these 19th century French copies exceed the quality and craftsmanship of their 18th century counterparts.
