An Italian Carrara Marble Statue of Bacchus, late 18th/19th c., the deity dressed in a panther skin and pressing grapes into a cup (the "invention of wine"), leaning on a draped tree trunk suspending a syrinx and surrounded by acanthus leaves, possibly remains of an effaced signature at rear, height 31 1/4 in. Note: Base with old inset at front.
