André Margat (French, 1903-1999), "Panthers on a Tree Limb", oil and gold leaf on panel, lacquered, signed and dated "1939" lower left, 28 1/2 in. x 60 1/2 in., in a brushed metal wood frame. Note: Margat was an animal painter and sculptor. He exhibited at the Salon de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts, the Autumn Salon, the Salon des Independants, and la Société des animaliers. In addition to painting, Margat frequently created engravings of animals to accompany stories and texts. He was posthumously honored by the Salon National des Artistes Animaliers.
