Description:

Anna Colquitt Hunter (American/Georgia, 1892-1985), "Ferry Across the Savannah River: Embarking on the 'Robert E. Lee'", oil on canvas, signed lower right, 16 in. x 20 1/4 in., in a period frame.

  • Notes: Note: Born into a genteel Savannah family, Anna Coquitt Hunter attended Agnes Scott College, leaving before graduation to marry. After the untimely death of her husband, Hunter went to work for the local newspaper. When she began working as an art critic she felt she needed to learn to paint to truly understand what she was seeing. Focusing on the daily life around her, Hunter painted engaging scenes such as this one of commuters boarding the "Robert E. Lee" to be ferried across the river.
