Lot 725
Armand Duran (French, 1834-1905), after Rembrandt van Rijn (Dutch, 1606-1669), group of four copper plate engravings, including three landscape scenes and "Old Man in a Divided Fur Cap", publisher's embossed stamp in red en verso, image size ranging from 3 1/4 in. x 4 1/4 in. to 6 in. x 5 1/2 in. Note: By the 19th c., the majority of Rembrandt's etching plates were flat and dulled, virtually unusable. Armand-Duran, a noted engraver of prodigious talents, undertook the task of meticulously replicating Rembrandt's images onto copper plates, using the first or second state etchings and not the dulled original plates. The resulting etchings were referred to as Armand-Duran's after Rembrandt.
