Description:

Athos Rudolfo Menaboni (Italian/Georgia, 1895-1990), "Little Bleu Herons", oil on wood panel, signed and dated "1964" lower right, pencil-titled en verso, 40 3/4 in. x 34 3/4 in., attractively framed.

  • Notes: Note: Born in Livorno, Italy, Athos Menaboni moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and earned critical acclaim for his murals and illustrations. Influenced by John James Audubon, Menaboni began a series of paintings in the 1930s of American birds in their natural habitats. An avid naturalist, he lived on a wooded sanctuary amidst numerous aviaries and soon became an authority on the native birds of Georgia. It is interesting to note that in this work, the artist uses the graining of the wood panel as an integral part of the design of the painting.
