Attributed to C.R. Parker (American, active New Orleans 1826-48), "Portrait of a Mother and her Child", oil on canvas, unsigned, 35. 75in., x 29 in. E4000/6000 Note: An itinerant artist, C.R. Parker traveled extensively throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia soliciting portrait commissions during the 1830s and 1840s. Delicate handling, fine draftsmanship and attention to jewelry characterizes Parker's work. The portrait of both mother and child is a particularly complex and engaging Parker painting.
