E2000-3000 Note: Francois Bernard settled in New Orleans in 1856 and established himself as one of the leading portrait artists of the day As with this painting of "Portrait of a Young Boy", Bernard preferred to work in an oval format for his portraits. Similar to paintings from the William E Groves Collection, Bernard has placed a young child in an elaborate painted setting.
