E800/1200 Provenance: Stowell Estate of Boston, Massachusetts. Note: In 1839 Alva Morris Holbrook joined Francis Lumsden and George Kendall as a partner in the operation of the newspaper "New Orleans Picayune". From 1864 to 1867 he was publisher of the Picayune, and in 1874 became editor and sole owner. Upon his death, he left the newspaper to his wife Eliza Jane Poitevent, who became the first woman publisher of a major metropolitan daily newspaper.
