(8 pcs.) Provenance: Descended in the Vargas Family, LA Note: The patriach of the family, Francisco Vargas, was the first of four generations of artists to create wax sculptural figures of the vendors, laborers, fishermen and hunters that populated Louisiana. Arriving originally from Mexico, Francisco Vargas opened his French Quarter shop in 1878 on Royal Street. His daughters Adelina and Conception, and Conception's daughter Lucy Rosato and her son August A. Alfaro continued the family's artistic tradion. August A. Alfaro continued to create the wax sculptures into the late 20th century.
