Lot 659
Description:
Autograph Manuscript Signed of Tennessee Williams (American, 1911-1983), "One Arm", 14 pages of various portions (fragments) of early drafts, including four autograph pages in pencil by Williams, the remainder being typescript, many with pencil corrections, the autograph title page in pencil signed "10 Wms", presented in a custom mat and frame, allowing access to the documents.
- Notes: Note: One Arm was written in 1942. The story, taking place in the French Quarter of New Orleans, caused a huge controversy when it was first published as it dealt very frankly with male prostitution and the issue of capitol punishment. It has, however, become the classic Tennessee Williams short story and was made into a film for which Williams also wrote the screenplay.
