Lot 486
Bror Anders Wikstrom (Swedish, 1854-1909, active New Orleans 1883-1909), "Sunset on the Florida Coast", oil on canvas, signed and dated "1891" lower right, W.E. Seebold label en verso, 18 in. x 32 in., in a period giltwood frame. Provenance: Mrs. Lucie Woodward Webb Renaud (1851-1925), New Orleans, and by descent to the present owners. Note: This painting is one of two Wikstroms listed in Mrs. Renaud's estate proceedings. The Inventory shows both paintings located at the Christian Woman's Exchange, 527 Royal Street. A copy of the Inventory accompanies this lot. The street number is apparently a typographical error. The Christian Woman's Exchange location was 522-524 Royal Street, the townhouse built in 1816 by wine merchant and cabinetmaker, Francois Seigneuret. The C.W.E. operated a consignment shop to assist genteel ladies in discreetly selling handwork as well as family heirlooms.
