Carl Rudolf Huber (Austrian, 1839-1898), 'A Cattle Driver in a Wide Landscape, with a Country Church and Cottage', late 19th c., oil on canvas, signed 'Huber' lower right, 25.5in x 32 in., in an elaborate period gilt frame E2500-3500 Note: Because this fine picture is signed only with the surname, there is a remote possibility that the painter might be alternatively identified as Hans Huber (also Austrian, 1813-1889); but that painter would have been trained during the Romantic Movement, whereas this painting represents the succeeding school of Realism Carl Rudolf (or Rudolf Carl) was trained at The Vienna Academy, where he later became Professor (and a medal winner in 1883); his distinguished academic rank may well have prompted him to sign only with his surname Reference: Benezit, Dictionnaire, 1948- 1955, vol 5, p 646.
