Description:

A George IV Carved Mahogany Reading Chair, early 19th, after a design by Morgan and Sanders, possibly by Gillows, horseshoe shaped continuous crest and arms with sliding hinged book rest, splats surmounted by lobed arches, stiles with lancet panels, saddle shaped seat, round tapered reeded legs Note: This lot is similar to a design for a 'Library Reading Chair' by the Strand cabinetmakers Morgan and Sanders, illustrated in the September 1810 issue of Rudolph Ackermann's Repository of Arts. The legs with flattened ball turnings, heavy reeding and tapered cup-like feet relate to the legs of chairs produced by the firm of Gillows of Lancaster and London.
