Colson had a particularly elegant style of portraiture that reflected the affluence and lifestyle of the sitters. Colson's fine draftsmanship is apparent in these portraits of the man and woman, particularly in his rich textures of dress and jewelry. Two examples of Colson New Orleans portraits include A Creole Lady and Mr Carti is in the collection of Louisiana State Museum.
