Description:
Charles Henry Reinike (American/Louisiana, 1906-1983), "The Corner of Third and Camp Streets", oil on canvas, signed lower right, 25 1/8 in. x 29 7/8 in., attractively framed.
- Notes: Note: Charles Reinike attended the Graham School of Art in his native New Orleans. After completion of his studies, he opened his own art school in 1927, The New Orleans Art League. It eventually became the New Orleans School of Art, and finally the Reinike Gallery. The artist's son, Charles Reinike III, reminisced about this particular painting, "It is a view from our second floor porch at our home at 1130 Third St. looking toward the corner of Third and Camp Streets. Not sure when this was painted, but I would guess in the late 1940's or early 1950's. I spent many a night on that porch watching the stars or the street below as a child. Even slept on that porch in the summer." Platou, Dode. Chas H. Reinike Louisiana Watercolors From 1935-1952. United States of America. The Historic New Orleans Collection, 1981, p. 6
