Charles Reinike (American/New Orleans, 1906-1983), "Bayou Teche", oil on canvas, signed lower right, with the artist's card en verso, 20 1/8 in. x 24 in., attractively framed.

  • Provenance: Provenance: Estate of the artist, descended through the family.
  • Notes: Note: Born in New Orleans, Charles Henry Reinike found the rural landscape and small communities of Southern Louisiana a continual source of inspiration for both his watercolor and oil paintings. In the summer months Reinike, and his artist wife Vera, ran the Reinike Academy of Art in St. Francisville, where many of their friends and fellow artists taught. Throughout his career as a teacher and artist, Reinike took painting trips, often with artist Clarence Millet and their students, to the countryside. Among his favorite locales were the scenic sites along Bayou Teche in St. Mary Parish, Morgan City, Grand Isle and West Feliciana Parish.
