A Chinese Junyao Stoneware Bowl, Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), flared sides rounding at the rim, covered overall in a crackled milky blue glaze turning to olive at the rim, the interior with two purple splashes, raised on a low splayed foot burnt orange in the firing, base with Mottahedeh Collection label, item number 483, height 3 1/8 in., diameter 7 1/2 in Provenance: William Clayton, Ltd., London; Mildred R. and Rafi Y. Mottahedeh, 1962; Sotheby's, New York, Fine Chinese Works of Art, September 20, 2000, lot 100; the Headley-Whitney Museum, Lexington, KY (Acc. No. 00.8.1.2). Note: In his forward to China for the West, an authoritative publication on the Mottahedeh collection, Nelson A. Rockefeller, a friend and fellow collector of Chinese porcelain, described the Mottahedeh's collection as "an artistic and cultural treasure without comparison in its field".
