Chinese School, 19th c., after Gao Qipei (1660-1734), two finger paintings, "Elephant and Man" and "Fisherman with Cormorants", each ink and color on paper, each with apocryphal inscriptions and seals upper left, each with Christie's, New York, labels, 45 3/4 in. x 27 7/8 in., mounted as hanging scrolls Provenance: With Benjamin Franklin March, Jr. (1899-1934), Curator of Asiatic Art, Detroit Institute of Arts (1927-1931); thence by descent in his family. The March family had these two paintings evaluated by Christie's specialist K.S. Wong in 1982.
