Civil War-8TH Louisiana Regiment A manuscript leather-bound booklet/ journal comprising approximately 89 pages recording the events of the war from the date of departure from New Orleans on June 4, 1861 for Camp Moore, Louisiana until the war's end. Compiled by M. Turla, of Co "B" who is listed in the journal as a second sergeant of Co. "B" in 1862, and as a prisoner in the body of a comprehensive list of regimental personal. Also listed are deserters and sick soldiers. Written in Spanish except for a copy of Robert E. Lee's General Order No. 9 and the poem entitled "Winchester". Apparently Turla's "regimental record" rather than a diary, the entries also reflect the battles in which the 8th Louisiana participated. E600/800 Note: Manuel Turla was a native of Cuba.
