[Civil War/Confederate/Louisiana Artillery/New Orleans Battle Flag A period Confederate painted silk regimental Battle Flag. Burgundy red field displaying crossed cannons, superimposed with the Louisiana pelican and incorporating the legend "We defend our rights". The flagis also emblazoned with "Louisiana Artillery" and "New Orleans" and is bordered with a cotton tasseled edge. Attached to the reverse of the frame is a copy of The New York Herald broadsheet dated Tuesday, August 19, 1862, "The Battle of Baton Rouge, Tuesday, August 5, 1862,with an engraved sketch/plan of the field of engagement. Glazed and Framed. 20in. x 26in. (flag). E30000-40000 Provenance: Recovered at the capital during the fall of Baton Rouge and presented to Francis T Nicholls, Confederate General and who became the Governor of Louisiana. Note: Nicholls name is printed on paper, attached to uppermiddle of flag.
