Civil War, Smallpox Hospital 3 A.L.S. to Mr. J.M. Symons regarding his property in Columbus, Mississippi that is being used as a "Pest House". The first dated Oct. 19th, 1863, in the form of a recommendation from Gen. Johnson's Medical Board of Survey, that the building be burned after use and that 1500 be paid as compensation. To which Mr. Symons objects and Brigadier General Daniel Ruggles recommends that the claims be liquidated when the government has no further use for the building. Sold together with a copy of D.N. Yandell's (Medical Director) letter and a cover letter signed R.M. Hood, Assistant Adjutant General, Columbus, Mississippi.
