Clarence John Laughlin (American/Louisiana, 1905-1986), "Two Eras in Cabildo History", vintage silver gelatin print, handwritten en verso "Neg. #3456, p. #267, 5/3/46, pub +1", 30 in. x 40 in. E5000/7000 Provenance: Previously in the collection of Clarence John Laughlin's son. Note: During World War II, Louisiana photographer Clarence John Laughlin was stationed in Washington D.C. According to the records now located at The Historic New Orleans Collections, the negative for "Two Eras in Cabildo History" was shot on May 11, 1941. According to his handwritten notes on the verso, Laughlin printed this photograph on May 3, 1946 using oversize army map paper. Laughlin produced a limited series of these oversized photographs of which examples were displayed for many years in the men's department at Godchaux's Department Store on Canal Street.
