Harvie Presentation Hickory and Silver Mounted Walking Stick, 1891, Virginia, probably Amelia County, inscribed on top "SBH/From her father 1891", on a lower band; "1807- Gen. Joseph E. Johnston - 1891", "1817-Gen. William W. Mackall- 1891", "1835-Col. Edwin J. Harvie", length 35 3/8 in Provenance: General Joseph E. Johnston to his friend, General William W. Mackall to his friend, Colonel Edwin J. Harvie to his daughter Sarah Blair Harvie, thence by descent in the family. Note: General William Whann Mackall (1817-1891) was a Seminole and Mexican-American War veteran. After 24 years as an officer in the United States Army, Mackall resigned his commission to join the Confederate Army. Rising to the rank of Brigadier General, Mackall served as chief of staff in the Army of Tennessee under General Joseph E. Johnston.
