Continental School, 19th c., "Portrait of Rosalie Julie Von Bonar", watercolor, unsigned, sight 3 in. x 2 ¼ in., label en verso reads, "Rosalie Julia Von Bonar, King Ludwig's Favorite", in a brass easel frame. Provenance: Accompanied by original receipt from Lang Antiques, San Francisco, California. Note: This miniature is an exact copy of the larger portrait of Rosalie Julie Von Bonar that hangs in the Schönheiten-galerie, or Gallery of Beauties, in the Nymphenburg Castle in Munich. Around 1840, Ludwig I, King of Bavaria (reg. 1825-48), commissioned Joseph Karl Stieler to paint the 36 portraits that now hang there, featuring some of the most beautiful women in the kingdom.
