E2000-3000 Note: Originally from Les Cayes, Saint-Domingue, the Francois Desire de Brueys family immigrated to France in the late eighteenth century and eventually settled in New Orleans. The de Brueys family had several portraits painted Page 82 by de L'hospital including portraits of Francois Desire de Brueys' wife and daughter. Francois Desire de Brueys' wife josephine de La Roche de Brueys was the sisterto justine de La Roche. justine de La Roche was the mother of well- known Louisiana artist, Richard Clague. Four portraits dated 1862 of the Henry Clement de Brueys family painted by their cousin Clague are in the collection of the New Orleans Museum of Art. Ref..
