Dale William Nichols (American, 1904-1995), "Dauphin Island, Alabama" oil on canvas board, signed and dated "55" lower right, 16 in. x 20 in. E7000/9000 Provenance: Commissioned by the Ford Motor Company to illustrate an article on Dauphin Island that was published in the April 1956 issue of Ford Times. The Indian shell mounds depicted, containing clay pipes and arrowheads as well as shells, can still be seen on the island.
