Description:

Dan J. Girouard (American/Louisiana, d. 1994), "Abstract Formation", ceramic, signature inscribed on bottom, h. 19 in., w. 16 in., d. 18 in. Provenance: Property of the New Orleans Museum of Art, Sold to Benefit the Acquisitions Fund. Note: Dan J. Girouard, weary of a demanding career in advertising, changed his path to follow a passion for art. He resumed college studies in Orlando, hoping to complete his undergraduate studies so that he could pursue a graduate degree and teach art. Unfortunately, due to advancing juvenile diabetes, Girouard found himself in his mid-twenties and going blind. Once he lost most of his vision, he became drawn to sculpture as his primary medium. In this lot, we see Girouard's proclivity towards abstract organic forms. His sculptures are often characterized by sensuous curves and primitive shapes manifested through touch, rather than dictated through sight.
