  • Notes: Note: American Social Realist Painter Dorothy Deyrup studied with the portrait artist Robert Hallowell in New York City in her early years. She was surrounded by art throughout her life, as members of her family were acquaintanced with Thomas Hart Benton and Edward Hopper, as well as Camilo Egas, Director of the Art Department at the New School for Social Research, where Deyrup's father worked. A talented artist, Deyrup worked with oils, watercolor, and woodcut; exhibited in solo shows at the Montross Gallery, New York City, in 1941, the Argent Gallery, the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors, New York City, in 1944, and Wellons Gallery, New York City, in 1953 In addition to painting in New York and the Hudson River Valley, she often visited Florida and Mobile, Alabama to paint the scenic landscapes.
